Pharmacological Action: Tilmicosin is a semi-synthetic macrolide antibiotic with a similar antibacterial spectrum to tylosin. It is effective against sensitive Gram-positive bacteria, including Staphylococcus aureus (including penicillin-resistant strains), Streptococcus pneumoniae, Streptococcus spp., Bacillus anthracis, erysipelas, Listeria spp., Clostridium spp., and gas gangrene organisms. It is also effective against sensitive Gram-negative bacteria, including Pasteurella spp., Haemophilus parasuis, and Brucella spp. It is effective against Mycoplasma as well. Tilmicosin is more potent than tylosin against Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae, Brucella spp., and Mycoplasma spp. 95% of hemolytic Brucella strains are sensitive to tilmicosin.
